The Foundation for Public Service Interpreting (FPSI) is a Not-For-Profit organisation, registered with the Charity Commission and a Company Limited by guarantee.

The foundation was established in 1994 and is dedicated to working with others in promoting and maintaining the highest standards in Public Service Interpreting.

TRUSTEES

Dr Cynthia White, (Chairman). Cynthia White is former Head of Sociology at what is now the Guildhall University, in the City of London. Cynthia is an authority on the history of migration into East London, with a a particular interest in the education and welfare of the Bengali Community. She is also a member of the Council of Toynbee Hall, the Universities Settlement in East London.

Dr Tom Werner is a medical doctor and a consultant psychatrist working in the NHS in South London and Tom is English/German bi-lingual.He is particularly concerned for patients who have limited English and have difficulty in accessing medical services.

Phillippe Fraser is a graduate of the School of African and Oriental Studies, University of London. He is a genealogist by profession and is Tri Lingual in French, Japanese and English.

OUR EXECUTIVE TEAM

Mark Kiddle, Chief Executive. Mark was the first director of Language Line, joint founding director of the National Interpreting Service. Mark was a member of the Nuffield Foundation enquiry which led to the establishment of the National Register.He is regarded as one of the UK leading experts on 'interpreting over the phone'. He specialises in language provision in Major Incident Planning.

Terry Rai, Operations Director. Terry read law at the University of East London, is an experienced interpreter and speaks four languages fluently.Terry jointly founded the National Interpreting with Mark Kiddle.

Ian Knibbs, Director of Marketing. Ian joined FPSI as Marketing Director in 2007. Following his Honours degree in design, he embarked upon his professional career, first training with EMAP in London and then moving to Hobsons Business Publications (part of the daily mail group) where he enjoyed a successful career spanning sales, marketing and operational management roles. This broad base of experience led to his role of Marketing Manager for a major government organisation where he gained further experience . Building upon this base, he was invited to become Head of Marketing for Language Line Services.and later with the experience of the interpreting industry joined FPSI. Ian is a regular speaker at conferences and seminars spanning both the public and commercial sectors.

Rachel Graham, Co-ordinator: Rachel is qualified nurse and trained at Guy's and St Thomas's hospital. She recently retired as a Registrar for Births Marriages and Deaths.

Dr Ian Warwick: Ian Is a lecturer at the Institute of Education and the University of London. Ian is honoary advisor on the interpreter training programme and plays a major role in the setting of standards through to examination.
