Notes on this Joomla installation

Sunday April 6

From what I can tell, Joomla somehow prevents certain files/directories bring deleted via FTP. it seems strange to me, but I suppose it's a security thing. So my assumption I could modify templates by just uploading new graphics was way off.

So... I've installed another template, JA Purity, which I liked as it looks clean and efficient. The demo page also includes a neat drop down menu, which might be useful.

Meanwhile, I'll have to look for a proper guide for modifying templates. A quick Google hasn't found anything, but there are plenty of commercial services who provide a customization service - so maybe it isn't as easy as I thought.

Saturday April 5

I've installed a new skin ans set it to the default. This needed some further work - a load of directories need write pemissions changing, which I thought the installation would have taken care of, but hadn't; but that was easily sorted through FTP.

I  did try installing one other skin, but that failed, saying some image file was missing... maybe it was a 1.5 version, I'm not really concerned about that. But though the skin isn't installed, it's left a load of files behind, and I haven't been able to get rid of them, not even deleting though FTP. No big deal, I'll have a look later.

Thursday April 3

Here we go with a first attempt at playing around with Joomla. Installation was easy since I didn't have to do it - beyond clicking a link on my host control panel anyway; five minutes later, it was installed and I logged in as admin, with the password... no, let's not go there.

When I've time, further investigation will follow.
